Video Manifesto 2011 Chemical Assessment obesity

The last course we were working in the health section dedicated to CCMC, the problem of obesity in the world. Today I stumbled across this video that can be used as an introduction to the topic.

The secret key of the Universe

this course students for Science in the Modern World will have to perform some mandatory reading. One of them is " The secret key of the Universe "by Lucy & Stephen Hawking , coinciding with the beginning of the content block Our Place in the Universe .

After reading the book, students must complete a questionnaire people asked learned from reading. But we also propose the development of their own questions, indicating the page where you can get the answer. The comments to this post are those questions posed by students of 1 high school "A"

In the El Pais newspaper published this article when the book was published:
The secret key of the universe is the third book by Lucy Hawking, a journalist, 37 years. But this is the first to write half with his father over the collaboration of Christophe Galfard-and first fiction. Writing a book is a very hard, and almost more when done in collaboration. You really are made for four hands or you wrote it incorporated ideas from his father? "He has really worked in the book, is a job half done. All the science is yours, for example, when Eric, Annie's father, explains what a black hole, has written it entirely. This Once the initial idea of \u200b\u200bthis book was mine, but we both written and many things are a reflection of his career, his job. "

Machines and Tools *

Machines
These devices, instruments, devices or systems that favor the use of forces, which are used to facilitate the implementation of work.
CLASS OF MACHINES :
According to its complexity, one or more points of support, machines fall into two groups:
Simple Machines: are machines that have a single point of support, simple machines vary depending on the location of their point of apoyo.Elementos a simple machine:
The machines used in performance, three key elements:
; point support: is the point on which it rests or moves the machine, also called the fulcrum,
axis point or surface on which supports the next two elements.
driving force or power (Fp): is the force applied to operate the machine.
resistance force (Fr): is the force that must be overcome to move or deform a body.
Other factors to be considered in performance of the engines are:
  • The distance between the point at which power is applied and the point at which to perform the support.
  • The distance between the fulcrum and application point of resistance.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MACHINES: All machines have the following features:

  1. produce the transformation of the energy they receive-
  2. use the energy to function.
  3. energy they receive for their performance is not fully exploited, because that part of this is lost to friction or rubbing.
Lever: is a simple machine consisting of a rigid bar that rests on a point around which to rotate. In other words, the lever is a rigid bar supported at one point on which force is applied at one end, to get a major force in the other. The levers are used to lift or move objects, breaking things very hard, drive boats etc.. Some examples of levers are pliers, scissors, tongs, fork, tongs. Elements of a lever:
The power arm : is the distance between the point where it applies the driving force (Fp) and the fulcrum (A).
arm strength: is the distance between the resistance force (Fr) and the fulcrum (A).
The Inclined Plane: the slope or ramp is a simple machine consisting of a flat surface at an angle to the horizontal. In the case of inclined planes that are based on a floor, that floor is a horizontal. In the inclined plane is the most simple machine that can build and used to lift heavy objects, either by sliding or by rolling on the slope. In the inclined plane the driving force is the force which drives up the object and the drag force is the weight of the object. In every incline, the product of the driving force for the length (l) plane is the product of body weight (resistance force) by the height (h) which goes:
Fm = Fr xh
Therefore to a resistance force and a constant height, it takes less driving force, if the length of the incline is greater.
Screw: are simple machines that result from the application of a slope. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around spiral and each round is called thread. For a screw into a surface like a wall, do so many times to turn move a little, but the force needed to make each turn is less than that required to drive the screw without twisting.
Wedge: is constituted by a triangular prism steel or other material consistent and is used to divide a body into two parts. In this type of machine the degree of friction is very important because it shows that the wedges are more efficient to be more pointed, saying is, the more acute is the angle at the vertex.
Pulley: disk is traversed in center by an axis and the edge has a channel or groove through which a chain or rope . This object is what allows the wheel to turn freely, it can be fixed to weave or move together with this
Machines formed : are machines that are made up of two or more simple machines .
Hoists: is a device made by combining various mobile and fixed pulleys. These blocks have the same characteristics that the running blocks, with the proviso that the weight of the object can not remain divided between two, as in the If the pulley
mobile , but remain divided by the number of branches that connect string between various pulleys.
Gears: are gears where the teeth of one of them gets in the holes of the other and are intended to convey a great effort.
Tools
are elements that require the action of man, will improve and facilitate its task, there are different types of tools and each has a specific use.

The useful auxiliary : serve for clamping components or to adjust its dimensions. For example, clamps, rulers, templates or molds.
Hand tools: With them we get to shape the pieces through the separation or deformation of the corresponding amaterial. The blades, saws, scissors, files and hammers are hand tools.
Machine tools: improve our ability to work on the materials, while reducing our physical effort. For example, the drill, drill, sewing machine or disc saw
The choice of tools
By choosing one or more tools to perform a certain operation should be taken Please note:
The material will work with them.
The operation to be perform: cutting, drilling, joining, etc.
His difficulty in handling.
The dangers use

The universe we know or want to know

The American Museum of Natural History has a web where you can browse a digital atlas of the universe.

The video shows a trip from the Earth's surface to the edge of space-time and gives us an idea of \u200b\u200bhow insignificant we are in the vastness of the universe.

Toc, toc ... is anybody there?

Hello again. The fiquiblog has lain "dormant" for a while, but decided autoreactive to mark the beginning of academic year 2010-2011.

in principle had already made quite some time depending on class blog or journal, but continues to serve to issue tickets, information and useful materials for the subjects of Department of Physics and Chemistry of IES Antonio Gala.

During this school year will be the Physics and Chemistry or CCMC of 1 and NPP bahcillerato 1 º ESO, but that does not mean that students can not continue to publish posts that are of interest to opinions, news or articles of various kinds. After all this is to collaboratively build a physics blog and chemical ... that to which at the time christened fiquiblog , remember?

Mural on the global obesity Incredible

Students for Science in the contemporary world of 1 school B, C and D have been working these days back in an activity centered análsisi the makeshift of obesity in the world and especially in the developing countries. It is in these where abrupt changes have occurred in recent years and may go hungry populations in societies with a high percentage of its population overweight.

The video that accompanies this post shows images of the making two separate murals as part of group activity.
